PEOPLE 🌟 PLANET 🌟 PRODUCT
Why shop small? Why support local? It's about more than just the environmental impact we've highlighted over the last few months.
Big brands like Shein and luxury fashion houses such as Armani and Dior have recently faced scrutiny for dubious labor practices. In contrast, small and sustainable brands maintain closer control over their supply chains, ensuring better compliance with labor laws. This means workers are more likely to receive fair wages and work in safe conditions.
Many small brands, like us, are transparent about their production processes and sourcing, allowing consumers to make informed choices. This transparency builds trust and ensures fair treatment of workers. Shopping from small, sustainable brands often means supporting local businesses and economies. These brands are more likely to produce their goods locally, creating jobs and contributing to the community. This support helps strengthen local economies and provides stable employment opportunities.

Things didn’t quite work out as well for the Cambodian zero-waste brand Tonle. Their founder, Rachel Faller, argues in her piece for Re/Make that while working with bigger brands is vital for a small brand to grow, since they have the power to purchase in significant quantities that help support fair labor practices, they are also often behind most design theft when they try to cut corners and costs to get what they want.
At Loop, we have always been proud of our original prints designed in-house by our co-founder, Itee, in our little Shanghai Design Studio. Thank you for loving them and for staying in the Loop! You can read more about our production practices on our website and on our Good On You ratings page.
So, consider this a friendly reminder to shop small as holiday sales turn up the volume on big brands. Support your favorite eco brands that go easy on our planet and invest in pieces that you have had on your wish list while they’re easy on your wallet too. Win-win! 🌟
